PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA--(Marketwire - April 6, 2009) - Paladin Energy Ltd ("Paladin" or "the Company") (TSX:PDN)(ASX:PDN) regretfully advises that the Company has been informed by medical authorities in South Africa that a second sub-contractor has succumbed to injuries received in a flash fire at the Kayelekera Uranium Project construction site in Malawi on Monday, 16 March.

The injured man, a Malawi national aged 29, died in hospital in Johannesburg on Friday, 3 April, despite every effort to save him. The deceased man's family have been informed and support is being provided by Paladin and the Company's contractors in Malawi. His remains will be repatriated to Malawi to enable local funeral arrangements to be made. Construction workers were informed of the death of their colleague on Sunday, 5 April, following which a memorial prayer service was held at Kayelekera village. Relevant Malawi government departments also have been advised.

A third man, aged 36, remains in a stable but serious condition in Milpark Hospital's Special Burns Unit.

Paladin's Managing Director/CEO, Mr. John Borshoff, said that the Company and its employees were deeply saddened at this tragic loss of life. An inquiry into the circumstances of the accident is on-going.
