PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - April 14, 2009) - Another full season of free programming continues on the Great Plaza, the heart of Penn's Landing, Philadelphia's premier Delaware River waterfront entertainment destination. The 2009 Program Season will showcase an assorted schedule of events including twelve different multicultural festivals that make up the PECO Multicultural Series. The annual PECO Multicultural Series will begin on Sunday, May 17, 2009 with the Israel Independence Day Festival and continue throughout the event filled 2009 season ending on September 20, 2009 with the Russian Mosaic Festival.

This year, the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation embraced the opportunity to once again expand and enhance the PECO Multicultural Series. New this year to the multicultural series is the Israel Independence Day Festival on Sunday, May 17 from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. The free festival, sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, is a celebration of Israel's 61st anniversary of statehood as well as the 100th birthday of Tel Aviv.

This joyous community celebration will feature a concert by Israel music star Rami Kleinstein, along with a wide variety of food booths and an Israeli marketplace. There will also be tables highlighting the programs and activities of many community organizations.

The festival is part of the PECO Multicultural series at Penn's Landing, which continues to celebrate the diverse cultures which make Philadelphia unique city. For more information, visit [ www.jewishphilly.org/israel61 ] .

Admission is FREE for all PECO Multicultural Series events and KYW Newsradio, Fox 29, and The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News are proud media partners for this series.
