PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA--(Marketwire - March 20, 2009) - Paladin Energy Ltd ("Paladin" or "the Company") (TSX:PDN)(ASX:PDN), with deep regret, advises that the Company has been informed by medical authorities in South Africa of the death of one of three sub-contractors injured in a flash fire at the Kayelekera Uranium Project construction site in Malawi on Monday, 16th March.

On Tuesday, 17th March, the injured men were transferred by air ambulance to the Milpark Hospital Specialised Burns Unit in Johannesburg, one of South Africa's leading centres for burns treatment. The injured man, who was aged 20, died yesterday (Thursday 19 March).

The two other men, aged 29 and 36, remain in a stable condition and are receiving extensive medical care. Paladin has arranged for immediate family members to travel to Johannesburg to attend the injured men and will provide support for the bereaved family. Relevant Malawi government departments have been informed of the contractor's death.
