NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - April 8, 2009) - As a way to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, Con Edison is inviting customers to join 122,000 New Yorkers who have gone paperless with the company's green e*bill billing and payment option. More than 78,000 customers enrolled last year alone.

This month, the company was awarded the 2009 George Mitchell Payments System Excellence Award by NACHA, The Electronic Payments Association, for its innovative and aggressive campaign that saw a 50 percent increase in customer participation last year. NACHA is a not-for-profit association that oversees one of the largest electronic payment networks in the world.

Con Edison's e*bill program is a fast, convenient and environmentally friendly electronic billing and payment option. Each month, Con Edison notifies customers via e-mail when bills are ready for viewing. Switching to e*bill is easy, and customers can visit [ www.conEd.com/ebill ] to learn how to sign up. As an added incentive, the company donates $1 to a nonprofit tree planting fund for every customer who enrolls.

"Con Edison's e*bill program is an easy way to save trees by saving paper. Receive and pay your bills electronically. It's a small step toward a big way to improve our environment," said Marilyn Caselli, senior vice president of Customer Operations at Con Edison.

The e*bill program is one part of the company's comprehensive environmental initiatives to encourage energy efficiency. For more than 100 tips that can help lower your bills and conserve energy visit [ www.coned.com/thepowerofgreen ].
