House ethics watchdog now open for business

  • The board of the nonpartisan, quasi-independent Office of Congressional Conduct has been at last been appointed after the longest delay in its history.

The House Ethics Committee has launched an investigation into Representative George Santos (R-NY) following a referral from the Office of Congressional Ethics, focusing on allegations of unlawful activities related to his 2022 congressional campaign. The committee will examine whether Santos engaged in illegal actions during his campaign, failed to properly disclose required information on House statements, violated federal conflict of interest laws, and/or engaged in sexual misconduct towards a job seeker. Santos, who has admitted to fabricating parts of his resume, responded to the investigation by stating he is cooperating fully and remains committed to serving his constituents.
