Sark finance committee faces confidence vote

The Sark Finance and Commerce Committee is facing a vote of no confidence due to its handling of a £200,000 loan from Barclays Bank, which was used to cover a budget deficit. The committee, led by Chairman Helen Plummer, has been criticized for a lack of transparency and poor communication regarding the loan, which was taken out without the approval of the Chief Pleas, Sark's governing body. The vote, scheduled for July 19, 2023, was initiated by Conseiller John Guille, who argues that the committee's actions have damaged public trust. In response, Plummer has defended the loan as necessary to maintain essential services and has promised greater transparency moving forward.
