A group of lawyers staged a protest against ex-NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kolo Kyari and submitted a petition to the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun.
A group of 49 civil society organizations, under the aegis of the Coalition of Civil Society for Good Governance, has called for a thorough investigation into the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, over alleged mismanagement and corruption. The group specifically demands a probe into the $4 billion spent on the rehabilitation of Nigeria's refineries, which they claim have not shown any significant improvement in performance. Additionally, the coalition is concerned about the lack of transparency in the operations of the NNPCL, including the non-remittance of funds to the federation account and the controversial $3.3 billion emergency crude repayment loan from AFREXIM Bank. The group has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to set up a panel to investigate these issues and ensure accountability within the NNPCL.
