A busy Upstate bridge is set to be temporarily closed as work for the new "diverging diamond interchange" nears completion.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is set to implement a rare diverging diamond interchange (DDI) at the intersection of I-385 and Moore Street in Duncan, marking the first such interchange in the state. This project, aimed at improving traffic flow and safety, will require the closure of the I-385 bridge over Moore Street starting at 7 p.m. on March 22, 2024, until 6 a.m. on March 25, 2024. During this period, a detour will be in place, and drivers are advised to plan their routes accordingly. The DDI design is expected to reduce congestion and enhance safety by eliminating the need for left turns against oncoming traffic, a feature that has proven effective in other locations across the U.S.
