AUSTIN, Texas--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Active Power (NASDAQ: ACPW) continues to capitalize on the growing UPS (uninterruptible power supply) market in China, having delivered two containerized [ CleanSource® 250 kVA UPS ] systems to Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Company, one of the largest subsidiaries of the China State Grid.

"This order validates the marketa™s demand for continuous power solutions that are energy and space efficient and environmental friendly, which are all attributes inherent in our product lines."

The systems have become part of a mobile continuous power solutions fleet made up of containerized UPS systems and generators, enabling the utility company to provide critical power protection where ita™s needed most with rapid deployment and redeployment capability.

aThis truly is a new concept in a mobile continuous power system,a said Mr. Jinxiu Zhang, deputy director, Marketing and Business Development at Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Company. aActive Powera™s flywheel UPS technology has a very small footprint compared to conventional systems, making it possible for us to incorporate UPS equipment in a limited amount of space. The system is also flexible which works well with our existing containerized gensets. In all, these mobile solutions add to our product offering and serve as an additional revenue stream for our rental business.a

The customer anticipates deploying the systems at conferences and events and at schools and hospitals as needed, but also allowing customers to rent the power equipment as required to support their critical applications. The two mobile systems are currently installed at the Shanghai World Expo 2010, the largest fair site in the world, to provide power protection during the event.

aChinaa™s growth will continue to generate demand for information technology and power infrastructure related equipment and in turn UPS systems,a said Jason dePreaux, senior analyst, Power and Energy Group, IMS Research. aChinaa™s UPS market weathered the economic tumult far better than the rest of Asia last year and is emerging quickly from the downturn. Its economic performance and continued government sponsored infrastructure investments will contribute to double-digit growth in UPS sales over the next five years.a

aWe are committed to the China market and the in country distribution channel strategy we have in place,a said Jim Clishem, president and CEO, Active Power. aThis order validates the marketa™s demand for continuous power solutions that are energy and space efficient and environmental friendly, which are all attributes inherent in our product lines.a
