MOSAID Technologies Incorporated: MOSAID Grants Wireless Patent License to Japan's Buffalo Inc.
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 28, 2009) - MOSAID Technologies Inc. (TSX:MSD) today announced that it has signed a wireless patent license agreement with Buffalo Inc., a global designer and manufacturer of wired and wireless networking, storage and memory products for businesses and consumers. Buffalo Inc. is based in Nagoya, Japan.
Buffalo has been granted a five year, running royalty license under certain of MOSAID's wireless patents for its wireless networking products that operate in accordance with the IEEE 802.11 family of standards. The patent portfolio license agreement, which takes effect on February 1, 2009, includes a one-time payment for past shipments, and royalty payments on future sales of certain Buffalo wireless networking products. Other financial details of the agreement are confidential.
Today, MOSAID also announced that it recently signed wireless patent license agreements with ATEN Technology, Inc. of Irvine, California, and Sena Technologies, Inc. of Seoul, South Korea. ATEN, selling products under the brand name IOGEAR, is a provider of wireless networking and computer peripheral equipment. Sena Technologies sells wireless and wireline devices. IOGEAR and Sena each signed five year, running royalty patent license agreements that cover 802.11 compliant wireless networking products sold by the respective companies. These products include: wireless access points, such as DSL (digital subscriber line) gateways, cable modem gateways and Ethernet bridges; wireless LAN (local area network) cards; and Wi-Fi device servers.
"These new wireless patent license agreements, signed with companies that are selling a wide range of Wi-Fi compliant products around the world, demonstrate the strength and reach of our fundamental wireless patents and the growing momentum of our wireless licensing program," said Michael Vladescu, Vice President, Licensing and Intellectual Property, MOSAID.
"Signing the patent license agreement with Buffalo is timely, given that the company is re-introducing its wireless solutions following the recent staying of an injunction that had prevented it from selling its Wi-Fi products in the United States," said Phil Shaer, Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, MOSAID.
