














EWI Appoints New Director/Update on TR Tire Project

AJAX, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 9, 2009) - Mr. Valdis Martinsons will join the Board of Environmental Waste International Inc. (EWI) (TSX VENTURE:EWS), subject to regulatory approval. Mr. Martinsons brings a wealth of experience in high tech businesses to EWI. He is presently Chief Operating Officer of iTMethods, a leading provider of business agnostic technology infrastructure operations for the small-medium business market.
Mr. Martinsons is a professional engineer with a Master of Applied Sciences engineering degree and a Master of Business Administration degree. He was Chief Information Officer of Virgin Mobile Canada, where he oversaw their successful launch as well as developing their multiyear infrastructure and foundational roadmap. Prior to that, he was Chief Information Officer of Research in Motion (RIM), responsible for all Blackberry operations and RIM facilities worldwide. During his tenure he led the operational improvements that brought Blackberry service from 80% to 99.9% availability while handling a tenfold increase in subscribers and a twenty fold increase in message handling. EWI welcomes Mr. Martinsons to its Board and believes that he will be an important asset in guiding the company during its current development of a tire facility as well as the future rollout of EWI's tire and other applications.
EWI continues to make solid progress on the previously announced prototype TR Tire Reduction Project. EWI has contracted Stem Engineering of Sault Ste Marie to complete the structural engineering and design work, as well as the integration of the various components that make up the overall system. The majority of the structural design is complete and Stem is presently working on finalizing the balance of the manufacturing drawings. Fabrication of certain key components has already begun.
EWI has contracted Rockwell Automation for the design and development of the electrical and control systems for the tire project. Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley and Rockwell Software), will be working with EWI to complete the programming and integration of the control software as well as designing the user interface and remote monitoring portions of the system.
EWI has designed systems for the sterilization of medical and animal waste, liquid waste and food waste as well as the breakdown of several other organic materials including tires. EWI continues to work on designs for other applications. Please visit EWI's home page at: [ www.ewmc.com ][ . ]
