Parametric Bolsters Institutional Team; Structured Active Approach Gaining Traction
SEATTLE, May 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Parametric, a majority-owned subsidiary of Eaton Vance Corp. (NYSE: [ EV ]), today announced the addition of two institutional portfolio managers. Reuben Butler is based in Parametric's Seattle office and Greg Johnsen is located in Eaton Vance's home office in Boston. They both report to Parametric's Managing Director – Institutional, James Barrett.
Parametric's unique Structured Active approach, which seeks risk-adjusted performance enhancements to several asset classes is gaining institutional momentum. "We have definitely benefitted from the secular trend in the institutional marketplace toward transparency, diversification and focus on managing volatility," explains Parametric CEO Brian Langstraat. "As this trend continues, our approach, which combines key benefits of both active and passive management, will continue to attract attention on a risk-adjusted basis."
Parametric's longest tenured Structured Active product, Structured Emerging Markets, has garnered more than $11bb since its inception in 1994. In recent years, the firm has introduced Structured Active strategies for developed equity markets, commodities, currencies and an absolute return solution that combines several strategies while hedging out systematic risks.
Mr. Butler and Mr. Johnsen join current institutional portfolio managers Brian Dillon and Jeff Brown, sharing responsibilities based on client segment and geography. Mr. Johnsen was previously Vice President and Investment Director, Product Management for Boston-based Wellington Management, where he served as the portfolio management liaison with the business development and client service teams. "Having Greg located in Boston greatly enhances the partnership with our colleagues from Eaton Vance," says Mr. Barrett. "His expertise and proximity to the Eaton Vance institutional group will be hugely important in our efforts to increase awareness and consideration of our strategies in the marketplace."
Prior to joining Parametric, Mr. Butler was Director, APAC for Russell Indexes, where his responsibilities included the development and management of the Russell Index business throughout Asia and Australia/NZ. Mr. Barrett remarked, "To be successful in the Far East, you must demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to the region and Reuben's experience there enhances our credibility."
Parametric's institutional group supports Eaton Vance's Boston-based team, focusing on Parametric's suite of Structured Portfolio Management offerings, which span multiple asset classes including equities, commodity, currency and options solutions.
