AUSTIN, Texas--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Active Power, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACPW), manufacturer of critical backup power systems and continuous power solutions, received an order for more than $8 million for containerized infrastructure solutions from one of its strategic IT partners. The order represents the largest single order in Active Powera™s history.

"Over the past two years, Active Power has created a number of competencies focused on containerization from our PowerHouse product programs"

aOver the past two years, Active Power has created a number of competencies focused on containerization from our PowerHouse product programs,a said Martin Olsen, vice president, Global Channels and Business Development for Active Power. aWe are now leveraging this knowledge to sell containerized infrastructures solutions and anticipate this to be an additional source of revenue for us in 2010.a

Datacenter containers are becoming more prevalent in the IT industry due to rising energy costs; space limitations; increasing server densities; and requirements to reduce not only costs, but time to deploy.

The IT container provides a way for organizations to quickly add computing power without the need to allocate capital for a new datacenter build, especially since costs to build 10,000 sq. ft. of new datacenter space can range from $10 million to $35 million, according to [ Gartner ].

aActive Power is in the right place at the right time as the datacenter containerization trend sweeps across the industry and becomes more generally accepted,a continued Olsen. aLower construction and acquisition costs along with reduced time to deployment and lower operating costs, makes for a compelling argument to a customer who needs to rapidly expand capacity. This core set of customer demands is increasing adoption of the containerized datacenter as well as the containerized power and cooling systems needed to support this mission critical infrastructure.a
