UnitedHealthcare sued The Guardian on Wednesday for defamation, claiming the British daily ran information it knew to be incorrect in order to "capitalize" on its CEO's assassination.

UnitedHealth Group is facing a lawsuit from The Guardian over allegations of widespread fraud and abuse within its Medicare Advantage plans. The lawsuit claims that UnitedHealth Group, through its subsidiary UnitedHealthcare, has been systematically overcharging the government by submitting false diagnoses to increase reimbursements. The Guardian's investigation revealed that UnitedHealth Group used algorithms and AI to identify and add unverified medical conditions to patient records, leading to inflated payments. The lawsuit seeks to stop these practices and recover the overpayments made to UnitedHealth Group. UnitedHealth Group has denied the allegations, stating that it follows all relevant laws and regulations and that its practices are aimed at improving patient care.
