AG finds Jocelyn Benson in violation of MI Campaign Finance Act

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced on May 19, 2025, that Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson violated the Michigan Campaign Finance Act by using state resources for campaign activities. The investigation revealed that Benson's staff used government email accounts and office equipment to plan and execute campaign events. As a result, Benson agreed to pay a $5,000 fine and to implement new training programs for her staff to prevent future violations. Nessel emphasized the importance of maintaining a clear separation between official duties and political activities to uphold public trust in government institutions.
