New Orleans teen sentenced to 26 years for killing Tacoma business owner

  • A 17-year-old who shot and killed a co-founder of Tacoma's Howdy Bagel has been sentenced to 26 years in prison for the crime.

A 17-year-old from New Orleans, identified as Sincere Standley, was sentenced to 26 years in prison for the shooting death of 15-year-old Derrick Cash in 2021. The incident occurred on July 17, 2021, when Standley, then 15, shot Cash during a dispute over a gun. Standley pleaded guilty to manslaughter and obstruction of justice. The sentencing took place on a Friday, and Standley will be eligible for parole after serving 21 years. The case was prosecuted by the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office, which highlighted the tragedy of gun violence among youth and the need for accountability.
