State Rep. James DeSana of Carleton is accusing Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson of exceeding her authority, filing data with discrepancies and intimidating election officials.

Michigan House Republican Representative Matt Maddock has filed articles of impeachment against Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, alleging she abused her power by sending unsolicited absentee ballot applications to all registered voters for the August and November 2020 elections. Maddock claims this action violated state election law and accuses Benson of attempting to influence the election outcome. The impeachment articles were filed on December 2, 2020, and are unlikely to advance in the Democratic-controlled House. Benson's office has defended her actions, stating that sending absentee ballot applications was within her authority and aimed at ensuring voter access during the COVID-19 pandemic.
