Kalwitz was hired as the finance officer in January.
On April 22, 2025, Cynthia Louise Johnson, the Finance Officer for the Town of Burgaw, was arrested and charged with driving while impaired (DWI) and hit and run after allegedly striking a parked car and fleeing the scene. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Bridgers Street, where Johnson's vehicle was found abandoned. She was later located at her residence and taken into custody. Johnson has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation, and her first court appearance is scheduled for May 15, 2025.
