British trade minister to visit India to negotiate trade deal

  • Britain's Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds will soon visit India to restart talks on a trade deal, finance minister Rachel Reeves said on Wednesday.

British trade minister Kemi Badenoch is set to visit India to further negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA) between the UK and India, aiming to finalize the deal by the end of 2024. This visit follows a series of talks that have been ongoing since January 2022, with the 14th round of negotiations recently concluded. The urgency to complete the FTA is driven by the upcoming general elections in both countries, with India's elections scheduled for April-May 2024 and the UK's expected in the second half of 2024. The agreement is anticipated to enhance economic ties, potentially increasing trade and investment between the two nations. During her visit, Badenoch will also engage with Indian businesses and participate in events to promote UK-India trade relations.
