A recent study by Bankrate has identified Iowa as one of the top states for retirement in the U.S., ranking it third overall. The study evaluated states based on several key factors including affordability, overall well-being, healthcare quality, weather, and crime rate. Iowa scored particularly well in affordability, with a cost of living index of 89.7, significantly below the national average, and a median home price of $239,400. Other states that made the top 10 list include Florida, Virginia, Colorado, Wyoming, Delaware, Idaho, New Hampshire, Minnesota, and South Dakota, each offering various advantages for retirees.
