Company's Ohio Customers Also Have Chance to Win $500 Home Improvement Gift Card By Using This Online Tool

AKRON, Ohio, April 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Saving energy is a great way to celebrate Earth Day.  By using the Home Energy Analyzer, FirstEnergy Corp.'s (NYSE: [ FE ]) utility customers can save energy and money by learning how energy efficient their homes are and what steps they can take to make more informed decisions about the energy they use.

As an added incentive, customers of FirstEnergy's Ohio utilities – Ohio Edison, The Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, and Toledo Edison – who complete the Home Energy Analyzer before June 30, 2012, will be entered automatically into a contest to win a $500 home improvement store gift card.  One entry per residential account is permitted.

The Home Energy Analyzer is a simple, convenient, online tool that allows a customer to get a personalized assessment of their home's energy use, see how their home compares to similar homes, and identify ways to improve its efficiency.  The Home Energy Analyzer is easily accessible via FirstEnergy's energy efficiency website – [ www.energysaveohio.com ].  To sign up, all customers need is their account number, which is located on their billing statement.

"The Home Energy Analyzer is a quick and easy way for customers to learn more about energy usage in their home," said John Dargie, vice president of Energy Efficiency. "This simple online tool can really help save energy and money."

While the bulk of household energy use involves heating and cooling, customers will be surprised to learn how many dollars are spent in other areas of their home.  The Home Energy Analyzer* helps customers:

  • Create a report that lists the major sources of energy usage in their house
  • Learn how home weatherization and the use of energy efficient lighting can save money every month
  • Identify energy efficient appliances
