FirstEnergy Employees Set Company Record For Giving to Harvest for Hunger

AKRON, Ohio, April 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: [ FE ]) employees set a company record for donations to the 2012 Harvest for Hunger campaign, giving nearly $360,000 and 10 tons of food to organizations across the company's service territory. The dollars and food translate into more than 2.5 million meals.
The dollars raised and food contributed is part of the friendly competition conducted by FirstEnergy employees and their business groups. The groups hosted in-office yard and bake sales, held auctions and sold lunches among other activities during the month-long campaign.
"In this challenging economy, the need for life's essentials is greater than ever before," said Anthony J. Alexander, president and chief executive officer of FirstEnergy. "Year after year, our employees have shown compassion and generosity to the people in communities where they live, and I'm proud of their efforts."
Donations to Harvest for Hunger from FirstEnergy employees help stock the cupboards of more than 40 food banks and organizations throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, New York and West Virginia.

"In our area, more than 180,000 people turn to us for help, and the outstanding contributions made by FirstEnergy employees will go a long way in providing to those in need."
The Akron-Canton Foodbank was recently named 2012 Foodbank of the Year by Feeding America Network for raising awareness and funds to help fight hunger.
FirstEnergy employees have been long-time champions of giving to Harvest for Hunger. In the last decade, company employees contributed $2.6 million, which represents the equivalent of more than 18.7 million meals.
