Vega Biofuels to Showcase Its Bio-Coal During European Road Show
NORCROSS, GA--(Marketwire - Mar 21, 2012) - [ VEGA BIOFUELS, INC. ] (
Vega Biofuels recently announced plans to build a green-energy manufacturing plant in Cordele, Georgia that will manufacture bio-coal from timber waste. The bio-coal will be made using special technology called "torrefaction."
The Company has received interest in its bio-coal product from all over the world. However, the Company's main focus is currently in Europe. The European Union has the world's largest regional energy market and accounts for one fifth of the world's energy use.
"Our goal is to get commitments for the entire production capacity of the South Georgia plant," stated Michael K. Molen, Chairman/CEO of Vega Biofuels. "The design of the plant and the size of the facility will allow us to expand and add additional production lines to meet the expected demand from the EU. The initial demand is a result of the mandate that has been given to European power companies to cut carbon dioxide emissions by twenty percent by the year 2020. The obvious renewable energy solution is bio-coal. We need to take our product to our client. That's why we are planning to conduct a road show type tour that will allow us to meet directly with potential clients and show how they will be able to burn our torrefied bio-coal in their existing coal-fired power plants without having to retrofit their plant. Bio-coal can be processed through the existing fossil coal handling chain."
Torrefaction is a partial carbonization process that takes place at temperatures between 475 - 575º in a low temperature environment which makes the physical and energetic properties of the biomass much more comparable to traditional coal. The biomass is then compressed into briquettes to be sold to the end user. Torrefaction has the added benefit of reducing or eliminating undesirable volatiles, such as nitrous oxides and sulfur dioxides and is considered carbon neutral to the environment.
