MF filed for bankruptcy protection on Oct. 31, 2011. On the same day, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission issued a joint statement, noting that a deal to sell off part of the company to another firm had not been agreed to. The statement also noted that MF had reported "possible deficiencies" in customer accounts.
On Nov. 1, 2011, the Company was suspended from trading on the London Metal Exchange. It has also been suspended as a clearing member of CME Group, Inc., one of the largest futures markets.
On Nov. 4, 2011, its chief executive officer, Jon Corzine, resigned his Company office. Harwood Feffer is investigating whether the Company misappropriated customers' funds, using their money to offset losses the Company incurred in failed investments.
