The House has passed new legislation that would prevent non-U.S. citizens from receiving Small Business Administration loans.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill on March 13, 2024, with a vote of 360-62, aimed at making it more difficult for non-citizens to open businesses in the United States. The legislation, titled the "America First Business Integrity Act," requires non-citizens to obtain a bond from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security before starting a business. The bond would be used to cover any potential fines or penalties if the business violates immigration or labor laws. Proponents of the bill argue that it will protect American workers and prevent the exploitation of undocumented immigrants, while critics contend that it will hinder economic growth and discourage foreign investment. The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.
