VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Aug. 25, 2009) - West Timmins Mining Inc. (TSX:WTM) ("WTM" or the "Company") today announced that it has received, from joint venture partner and operator Lake Shore Gold, additional results from the on-going drill program on the Thunder Creek joint venture in Timmins, Ontario. Results released today indicate that the high-grade core of the Thunder Creek gold system continues to expand, that the system continues to exhibit gold mineralization over exceptionally broad widths and that anomalous gold mineralization can be traced to a vertical depth of at least 1,125 metres, beyond which the system remains open.

Holes TC09-68c and TC09-68d, located respectively 55 and 95 metres vertically above previously reported hole TC09-68b (which intersected 12.75 g/t gold over 83.40 metres; NR 09-20, June 24, 2009 - [ http://media3.marketwire.com/r/westtimminsmining.com/090624NR09-20ThunderCreek68b ]) both intersected the Rusk and Porphyry Gold Zones, returning gold mineralized intercepts of 100.25 and 80.30 metres respectively at grades of 2.34 and 3.73 g/t gold. Both holes contained multiple high-grade gold intercepts, including 21.86 g/t gold over 1.70 metres from the Rusk Zone in hole TC09-68c and 9.00 metres grading 12.17 g/t gold from the Porphyry Zone in hole TC08-68d.

Hole TC09-73 intersected the Rusk Zone and part of the Porphyry Zone host syenite at a vertical depth of over 1,000 metres. The results from Hole TC09-73 indicate that anomalous gold mineralization persists within the Thunder Creek Gold system to a vertical depth of 1,125 metres and that the system remains open beyond that depth. These intersections are almost 300 metres vertically below the high-grade interval from hole 68b. Hole 73 did not intersect the high-grade core of the Thunder Creek system, but returned anomalous gold values throughout. The Porphyry Zone host syenite porphyry continues to broaden, reaching over 250 metres in width in recently completed hole 73a. The porphyry at this depth continues to exhibit many of the features associated with the higher grade portion of the zone above.

"The results from TC09-68c and TC09-68d are very positive. The results from hole TC09-73, while not repeating the extraordinary grade x thickness of the gold mineralized intercept in hole 68b, and the expectations this put on such an extremely deep step out, continue to provide evidence for the expansion of the Thunder Creek gold system at depth," said Darin Wagner, President and CEO of West Timmins Mining. "Observing anomalous gold mineralization over 100 metre plus widths this far from the core of the zone continues to highlight the substantial potential of this system. The joint venture now needs to focus on tracing the zones of greatest grade x thickness to this depth where the system as a whole appears to be continuing to expand in scale."

Four additional drill holes have now been completed at Thunder Creek (holes TC09-73a, 74, 75 and 76) and three drills continue testing the Thunder Creek gold system.

WTM holds a 40% interest in the Thunder Creek Property in joint venture with project operator Lake Shore Gold. WTM also holds a 100% interest in, and is actively drill testing, the adjoining Hwy 144 and Thorne Properties located along the extension of the Timmins (West)-Thunder Creek gold trend.

Quality Control and Assurance

The Thunder Creek Joint Venture is operated by Lake Shore Gold. Mr. Jacques Samson (P.Geo.) is Lake Shore Gold's qualified person ("QP") for the Thunder Creek Property. As QP, he has prepared or supervised the preparation of the scientific or technical information for the Property and has verified the data disclosed in this press release. Mr. Darin Wagner (P.Geo.), President and CEO of the Company, and QP for WTM, has examined the drill intercepts reported.

Lake Shore Gold employs a quality control program to ensure best practices in the sampling and analysis of drill core. Assays have been completed using a standard fire assay with a 30-gram aliquot. For samples that return a value greater than three grams per tonne gold, another pulp is taken and fire assayed with a gravimetric finish. Zones with visible gold are tested by pulp metallic analysis. NQ size drill core is saw cut and half the drill core is sampled in standard intervals. The remaining half of the core is stored in a secure location. The drill core is transported in security-sealed bags for preparation at ALS Chemex Prep Lab located in Timmins, Ontario, and the pulps shipped to ALS Chemex Assay Laboratory in Vancouver, B.C. ALS Chemex is an ISO 9001-2000 registered laboratory preparing for ISO 17025 certification.
