Bruce M. Gans Appointed an Independent Trustee of Hospitality Properties Trust

NEWTON, Mass.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Hospitality Properties Trust (NYSE: HPT) today announced that Bruce M. Gans, M.D. has been appointed to fill the unexpired term of Frank J. Bailey as an Independent Trustee of HPT. HPT has previously announced that Mr. Bailey had submitted his resignation effective January 30, 2009, as a result of Mr. Bailey's appointment as a Federal Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Massachusetts. Dr. Gans is expected to serve the remainder of Mr. Bailey's term that will expire at the annual meeting of HPT shareholders in 2009, at which time it is expected that Dr. Gans will stand for election by HPT shareholders.

Dr. Gans has also been appointed to HPT's Audit, Compensation, and Nominating and Governance Committees.

Dr. Gans (age 62) has been Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, New Jersey for the past seven years. Dr. Gans is also a Director of Five Star Quality Care, Inc. (NYSE Alternext US: FVE) and has been since 2001.
