Generation Z students are increasingly prioritizing universities that offer strong career preparation and practical skills over traditional prestige, according to a recent survey by the career platform Handshake. Unlike their parents, who often valued the reputation and brand name of a university, Gen Z students are more focused on institutions that provide robust internship opportunities, career services, and direct pathways to employment. The survey found that 78% of Gen Z respondents considered career outcomes as a critical factor in their college choice, while only 45% of their parents felt the same way. This shift in priorities reflects broader changes in the job market and the rising cost of education, prompting students to seek a more immediate return on their educational investment.
