Oregon business owners decry 'whipsawing' tariffs

Sen, Ron Wyden hosted the roundtable at the Port of Portland where he heard a number of business leaders say they're already feeling the consequences of these tariffs.

Oregon business owners are expressing frustration over the state's rapidly changing COVID-19 restrictions, which they describe as "whipsawing" due to the frequent shifts between different risk levels and associated rules. The Oregon Health Authority's four-tier risk level system, which determines the extent of business restrictions, has led to confusion and financial strain as businesses struggle to adapt to the changing guidelines. For instance, a recent downgrade of Multnomah County from "extreme risk" to "high risk" allowed some businesses to reopen or expand operations, but owners remain concerned about the potential for future restrictions. The ongoing uncertainty has led some business owners to call for more stable and predictable guidelines to help them plan and sustain their operations amidst the pandemic.
