Prison officials are asking for help at the New Hampshire State House, with the Department of Corrections facing significant cuts.

The New Hampshire Senate passed a $75 million budget for the Department of Corrections, which includes funding for a new men's prison in Concord and renovations at the women's prison in Goffstown. The budget also allocates money for staff raises, new equipment, and technology upgrades. The Senate's version of the budget differs from the House's, particularly in the funding approach for the new prison, with the Senate opting for a pay-as-you-go method rather than bonding. This budget now heads to a committee to reconcile the differences between the House and Senate versions before final approval.
