The CEO of a major budget fashion retailer has stepped down after a woman made an allegation of inappropriate behavior against him, the company says. According to a press release by Primark's owner, Associated British Foods,

Primark's CEO, Paul Marchant, resigned following an allegation of inappropriate behavior, which the company described as an "error of judgment" rather than a breach of conduct. The incident involved a single occurrence of inappropriate behavior towards a colleague, leading to his immediate resignation. Primark emphasized that this was not a case of sexual harassment or assault, and no criminal charges were filed. The company has since appointed a new CEO, George Weston, who was previously the CEO of Associated British Foods, Primark's parent company. This transition comes at a time when Primark is navigating through a challenging retail environment, focusing on recovery and growth post the global health crisis.
