Albany City Manager Terrell Jacobs announced Thursday that Derrick Brown will become the city's new assistant city manager for utility administration. The position opened at the end of January when former Assistant City Manager Yvette Fields retired from the role.
Derrick Brown, a former standout basketball player at the University of Albany, has been appointed as an assistant coach for the men's basketball team at his alma mater. Brown, who played under coach Will Brown from 2001 to 2005, returns to the university after a successful stint as the head coach at the State University of New York at Delhi, where he led the team to a 17-10 record in his last season. His appointment was announced by the current head coach, Dwayne Killings, who praised Brown's deep connection to the program and his coaching experience. Brown's return is seen as a move to bring back the winning culture he was part of during his playing days, which included three America East Conference championships.
