  • Activist investor Elliott (ECAL.UL) on Monday disclosed a stake of close to 5% in RWE , urging the German utility to significantly increase its 1.5 billion euro ($1.63 billion) share buyback programme.

Paul Singer's Elliott Investment Management has revealed a significant investment in RWE AG, Germany's largest power producer, and is pushing for the company to enhance its share buyback program. Elliott, known for its activist investment approach, has taken a stake worth over €1 billion in RWE, which is currently valued at €26 billion. The firm is advocating for RWE to increase its share repurchasing activities, citing the company's strong financial position and the potential for higher shareholder returns. This move comes at a time when RWE is also focusing on expanding its renewable energy operations, aligning with broader European energy transition goals. However, Elliott's involvement might pressure RWE to balance its environmental commitments with shareholder value enhancement strategies.
