  • Banca Popolare di Sondrio on Wednesday set ambitious goals for profits and shareholder rewards through 2027, as it seeks to fend off an unsolicited bid from bigger rival BPER Banca .

Banca Popolare di Sondrio (BPS), an Italian cooperative bank, has set ambitious financial targets for 2025, aiming to increase its net profit to 300 million euros from 220 million euros in 2023. The bank plans to achieve this by enhancing its revenue, particularly through a significant boost in net fees and commissions, which are expected to rise by 30% to 400 million euros. BPS also intends to maintain a high dividend payout ratio, targeting 60% to 70% of its net profit, up from the previous 50%. This strategy comes amidst speculation that BPS could be a takeover target, especially following recent mergers in the Italian banking sector. Additionally, BPS is focusing on improving its cost-to-income ratio to below 50% and increasing its core capital ratio to 15% by 2025, signaling a robust approach to both growth and shareholder returns.
