  • In an unprecedented moment for the South African Parliament and the country, National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza announced this afternoon, that the tabling of the Budget Speech for 2025/26 has been postponed to a later date.

The South African government has postponed the 2023 Budget Speech, originally scheduled for February 22, 2023, due to the ongoing energy crisis and the need for further consultations with key stakeholders. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will now deliver the speech on February 24, 2023. This delay aims to allow for more comprehensive discussions on economic recovery plans, energy solutions, and fiscal strategies to address the country's challenges, including the severe load shedding by Eskom. The government is focusing on stabilizing the economy, ensuring energy security, and implementing reforms to mitigate the impacts of the energy crisis on citizens and businesses.
