  • BENGALURU: With land acquisition for the Rs 27,000-crore Bengaluru Business Corridor (previously known as Peripheral Ring Road) project proving to be never ending and highly contentious, the tender to be called to build the much-delayed project has been delayed.

The Karnataka government has established a high-level committee to expedite the land acquisition process for the Bengaluru Business Corridor (BBC) project, which aims to enhance connectivity between the Kempegowda International Airport and the city center. This initiative, part of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Land Transport Authority's (BMLTA) efforts, seeks to reduce travel time significantly. The committee, led by the Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner, includes key figures like the BDA Commissioner and BBMP Chief Commissioner. The project, which has been in planning for over a decade, involves acquiring 150 acres of land and is expected to cost around Rs 27,000 crore. The urgency to complete this project stems from the need to alleviate Bengaluru's notorious traffic congestion, with the government aiming to start construction by the end of 2024.
