MercadoLibre's payment processor, Mercado Pago, has introduced a new feature allowing Brazilian tourists in Argentina to make payments using Brazil's instant payment system, Pix. This initiative comes as a response to the increasing number of Brazilian visitors to Argentina, driven by the significant devaluation of the Argentine peso, making travel and shopping there more affordable for Brazilians. The service enables tourists to pay at various merchants in Argentina by scanning a QR code, with the transaction amount converted to Brazilian reais at the point of sale. This move not only simplifies transactions for tourists but also aims to boost local commerce in Argentina by facilitating easier cross-border payments.
