  • Japan's top brokerage and investment bank, Nomura Holdings , on Wednesday reported a 101% increase in net profit as its wholesale business segment grew income on strong demand for equity offerings and mergers and acquisitions advisory services.

Nomura Holdings Inc., Japan's leading brokerage, reported a significant increase in its third-quarter profit, doubling to 50.5 billion yen ($340 million) for the period ending December 31, 2024, from 24.5 billion yen the previous year. This surge was primarily driven by a robust performance in its investment banking division, which saw a 12% rise in revenue, fueled by a rebound in global mergers and acquisitions and equity offerings. Additionally, Nomura's asset management arm also contributed positively, with a 20% increase in net revenue due to favorable market conditions. However, the retail division experienced a slight downturn due to lower trading volumes. Despite this, Nomura's CEO, Kentaro Okuda, expressed optimism about the firm's strategic direction, focusing on enhancing its wholesale business and expanding its presence in key international markets.
