  • The estate of one of Superman's co-creators has filed a copyright lawsuit in a U.S. court against Warner Bros. Discovery ahead of the release of its new movie "Superman," part of a planned reboot of the DC Comics superhero film franchise.

The heirs of Superman's co-creator, Jerome Siegel, have filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Comics, alleging that the company has not honored a 2001 agreement which restored their copyright interest in the iconic character. This legal action comes ahead of the release of a new Superman movie, "Superman: Legacy," set for 2025. The lawsuit claims that Warner Bros. has been exploiting Superman for profit without adequately compensating the Siegel heirs, particularly highlighting the upcoming film as a significant point of contention. The heirs are seeking damages and a declaration that they have regained copyrights to Superman, which they argue should have reverted to them in 2013. Warner Bros. has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
