  • French Finance Minister Eric Lombard said on Friday that talks on getting the 2025 budget passed through parliament were "on the right track", although some compromises may still be needed.

French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire expressed optimism about the ongoing budget negotiations, stating that discussions with parliamentarians are on the right path. This comes as France aims to reduce its budget deficit to meet European Union fiscal rules, targeting a reduction to 4.4% of GDP in 2024 from 4.9% in the previous year. Le Maire emphasized the government's commitment to fiscal responsibility while also addressing the need for economic growth. The negotiations are crucial as France seeks to avoid EU sanctions and maintain its credibility in financial markets.
