India's agriculture sector has shown strong resilience and consistent growth, even in the face of challenges, according to the Economic Survey 2024-25 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The Economic Survey 2024-25 highlights significant growth in India's agriculture sector, showcasing a robust performance across various sub-sectors. The survey notes that agriculture, forestry, and fishing have seen a consistent increase in Gross Value Added (GVA) at basic prices, with a growth rate of 4.7% in 2022-23, up from 3.5% in the previous year. Key achievements include a record foodgrain production of 329.69 million tonnes in 2022-23, driven by favorable monsoon conditions and government initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). The fisheries sector also experienced a notable growth of 10.33% in 2022-23, supported by schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). Additionally, the survey points out the sector's resilience against global economic challenges, with increased investments in agricultural infrastructure, digital agriculture, and sustainable practices, aiming to enhance productivity and farmer income.
