ADVA FSP 3000 Answers Demand for Huge Data Increase

ADVA Optical Networking announced today that the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX), one of the largest Internet Exchanges in the world, has selected its 100G Metro solution as a key part of a new core network infrastructure. Connecting data center locations throughout Amsterdam, the 100G Metro solution will double AMS-IX's current network capacity ensuring that it can meet fierce bandwidth growth and its customers' expectations.

"We are experiencing exponential growth in data transported over the exchange platform," said Henk Steenman, CTO at AMS-IX. "We expect that this growth will continue in the next three years. To accommodate this development we are expanding and upgrading the core of our network. Upgrades will be based on new 100G technology and ADVA Optical Networking provides us with a 100G optical network solution to be used in the Amsterdam metro area."

What's critical about the 100G Metro solution to AMS-IX is its ease of use. In addition to thoroughly testing it in ADVA Optical Networking's Meiningen, Germany, facility, AMS-IX also successfully evaluated the solution in its live testbed environment without any issues. To do this, AMS-IX worked closely with ADVA Optical Networking's services team who were continuously available to discuss and resolve any problems.

"Today's networks are undergoing a radical transformation," commented Christoph Glingener, CTO at ADVA Optical Networking. "The demand for 100G technology is growing rapidly, especially as 10G density reaches capacity. Service providers need to ensure they can respond to customers' data demands and do so effectively. This is particularly true in the metro. Our direct detection 100G Metro solution is the first of its kind to do exactly this."

Fully incorporated into the ADVA FSP 3000, the 100G Metro solution is based on direct detection 4x28G technology and is a direct response to service providers and enterprises demands for efficient 100Gbit/s data transport across distances of up to 500km. The 100G Metro solution has been designed to deliver four key efficiencies: cost, space, power and spectral.
