Chartwell Announces Sale of Six U.S. Properties

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 18, 2012) - Chartwell Seniors Housing Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:CSH.UN) ("Chartwell") announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to sell its 100% ownership interest in six U.S. properties aggregating 1,221 independent living suites located outside of its core states of Texas, Florida and Colorado to Harvest Facility Holdings LP. The sale price will be approximately U.S.$165.5 million, and will be partially settled by the assumption of existing mortgages with an aggregate outstanding balance, as of June 1, 2012, of approximately U.S.$106.8 million. The transaction, subject to certain regulatory and lender consents, is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2012.

"This transaction is fully in line with our stated strategy to concentrate our U.S. investments in our core states and to increasingly focus our resources and management on the strong, stable and growing Canadian market," commented Brent Binions, Chartwell's President and CEO.
