WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Jan. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The BB&T Small Business and Middle Market banking groups have won a total of 17 Greenwich Excellence Awards from Greenwich Associates, a provider of research-based strategy management services for financial professionals. The awards include 16 in national categories and one regional award. Since 2009 BB&T has earned a total of 61 Greenwich Excellence Awards, more than any other bank.

BB&T's national awards are in the overall satisfaction and financial stability categories and the regional honor is in overall satisfaction for Treasury Management in the South. The awards are based on interviews with nearly 13,500 U.S. small businesses and nearly 11,500 middle market companies. Of the more than 750 banks evaluated, only 39 received Greenwich Excellence Awards in middle market banking and 43 in small business banking.

In national categories for both small business and middle market banking, BB&T received Greenwich Excellence Awards in:

Treasury management – overall satisfaction

Greenwich Excellence Awards are determined by banks' performance in Greenwich Associates annual U.S. Small Business and Middle Market Banking Study, in which decision makers from small businesses with $1-10 million in annual sales and middle market businesses with $10 to $500 million in annual sales name the banks they use and rate them in more than 10 banking and treasury management categories. Recognition is based on statistical differentiation at a 95 percent confidence level.
