Groundbreaking Ceremony Planned for New Beaver Valley Power Station Emergency Operations Facility

AKRON, Ohio, June 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: [ FE ]), will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Emergency Operations Facility for the Beaver Valley Power Station on Monday, June 27, at the Beaver County Airport, 135 Cessna Drive, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. The event will begin at 11 a.m.

Officials from FENOC, Beaver County and area emergency management agencies will be on hand for the groundbreaking.  Addressing guests will be Paul Harden, vice president of Beaver Valley Power Station; Jim Lash, president of FirstEnergy Generation and Chief Nuclear Officer; Dan Donatella, the chairman of the Beaver County Airport Authority; Tony Amadio, chairman of the Board of the Beaver County Commissioners, and Charlie Camp and Joe Spanik, Beaver County commissioners.

The new facility will strengthen FENOC's and Beaver Valley's long-standing commitment to protect public safety and the environment by improving coordination between the plant and local emergency agencies. Construction is expected to be completed in 2012.
