Alexco Closes $9.5 Million Flow-Through Private Placement

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 23, 2009) - Alexco Resource Corp. (TSX:AXR)(NYSE Amex:AXU) ("Alexco" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that it has today closed the flow-through private placement previously announced on December 14, 2009, issuing a total of 2,375,000 flow-through common shares at a purchase price of $4.00 per flow-through share for total gross proceeds of $9,500,000. Cormark Securities Inc. and Canaccord Financial Ltd. acted as co-lead underwriters.

The gross proceeds of the Flow-Through Shares shall be used for exploration on Alexco's properties in the Keno Hill silver district in Canada's Yukon Territory.

Keno Hill Silver District History

Between 1921 and 1988, the Keno Hill Silver District produced more than 217 million ounces of silver with average grades of 40.5 ounces per ton silver, 5.6% lead and 3.1% zinc (Yukon Government's Minfile database). The historical production grades would rank Keno Hill in the top 3% by grade of today's global silver producers. The Keno Hill district is the second-largest historical silver producer in Canada.
