Intrinsyc Software International, Inc.: Intrinsyc Signs Soleus Licensing Agreement with ECS
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 7, 2009) - Intrinsyc Software International, Inc. (TSX:ICS), a leading provider of software solutions for mobile and embedded devices, today announced the signing of a Soleus® license and engineering services agreement with Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS). Based in Taiwan, ECS is the world's leading motherboard, graphics card, barebone system, and notebook manufacturer.
ECS chose the Soleus® software platform and Intrinsyc's Solutions Engineering group to speed the development of a dual-function external dongle that will support high-speed wireless data communications over Mobile WiMAX and voice over Quad-Band EDGE networks. The Solutions Engineering group located in Taipei will develop a Phone Driver Module (PDM) for the Comsys dual-mode Wimax+EDGE modem, and will port the Soleus software platform to the Samsung 2450 processor-based hardware.
"We chose to adopt Soleus for its flexibility and adaptability in areas of data communications and telephony, which enables us to swap different modems and easily develop PDMs for different market segment requirements while keeping the core design unchanged," said Rex Chang, Vice President, Elitegroup Computer Systems. "In today's tough economic environment, it's more important than ever to have partners who can help us develop innovative, feature-rich devices quickly and cost effectively. We value Intrinsyc and will continue to leverage their expertise to build wireless devices that stand out from the competition."
The new ECS dongle provides notebook users with a Mobile WiMAX modem for wireless data communications. Detached from a notebook computer, the dongle can be used as a "light" EDGE feature phone. ECS will be supplying the target device to several Taiwan WiMAX operators and will market it to other WiMAX operators in Asia and the U.S.
"This new device from ECS represents the ultimate in mobile convenience, allowing people to get high-speed wireless connectivity on a notebook or make voice calls over EDGE networks," said Souheil Gallouzi, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Mobile Products & Development, Intrinsyc. "The unique combination of Intrinsyc's software solutions and expertise in Solutions Engineering will enable ECS to deliver demonstration devices to service operators quickly."
Soleus is a comprehensive mobile software platform, with a telephony stack and a large applications portfolio, which enables mobile and portable device makers to rapidly develop and deploy an array of wireless consumer devices quickly. Built on Windows Embedded CE, the flexible Soleus software platform allows numerous feature-set variations to meet the requirements to develop multiple handheld and handset designs.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
