Allegheny Energy Announces $300 Million Bond Issuance

GREENSBURG, Pa.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Allegheny Energy, Inc. (NYSE: AYE) announced today that its subsidiary, Monongahela Power Company, will issue $300 million (principal amount) of first mortgage bonds with a coupon of 7.95 percent and a five-year maturity.

Monongahela Power Company intends to use the net proceeds from the sale of the bonds to repay short-term intercompany indebtedness, to finance certain capital expenditures, and for working capital needs and other general corporate purposes. Allegheny expects to complete the bond issuance on December 15, 2008.

The bonds have not been registered under the Securities Act of 1933 and may not be offered or sold in the United States absent registration or an applicable exemption from the registration requirements of the Securities Act.
