The Federal Trade Commission sued ride-hailing giant Uber Monday, alleging "deceptive" billing and cancellation practices in its Uber One subscription service.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a lawsuit against Uber, alleging that the company engaged in deceptive practices related to its Uber One subscription service and driver cancellations. The FTC claims that Uber made it difficult for customers to cancel their Uber One subscriptions, often requiring them to navigate through multiple screens and wait times. Additionally, the lawsuit accuses Uber of charging cancellation fees to drivers who were unable to start trips due to reasons beyond their control, such as app glitches or passenger no-shows. The FTC is seeking a permanent injunction to stop these practices, as well as refunds for affected customers and drivers. Uber has responded by stating that it disagrees with the FTC's allegations and is prepared to defend itself in court.
