IITH Student Lands Record-Breaking Rs 2.5 Crore Google Offer

Hyderabad, January 9th, 2026 - Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) is celebrating a landmark achievement in its placement season, as B.Tech student Edward Nathan Varghese secured an unprecedented package of Rs 2.5 crore (approximately $300,000 USD) from Google. This marks the highest-ever compensation received by any student in the institute's history.

Varghese, a final-year student in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), received the offer for a core engineering role at Google during the ongoing campus placement drive for the 2023-24 graduating batch. IITH officials confirmed the record-breaking package via social media, highlighting the institute's growing reputation for producing top-tier engineering talent.

A Surge in Core Engineering Roles

This year's placement season at IITH has been particularly noteworthy, not just for the record-high package, but also for a significant increase in opportunities within core engineering sectors. The number of companies actively recruiting for core engineering profiles has risen from 29 last year to 37 this year, indicating a strong demand for specialized skills in areas like semiconductor design, embedded systems, and advanced materials. This shift reflects a broader trend in the Indian tech industry, with increasing investment in hardware and foundational technologies.

"The growth in core engineering placements is a positive sign, showcasing the institute's commitment to fostering expertise in crucial engineering disciplines," noted Professor B.S. Murty, Director of IITH, in a recent statement. "We have strategically focused on strengthening our programs in these areas, and it's gratifying to see companies recognizing the quality of our students."

Strong Average Salary and Overall Placement Performance

Beyond the headline-grabbing package, IITH's overall placement statistics are also impressive. The average salary offered to graduating students this year stands at Rs 72.47 lakh per annum (approximately $87,000 USD). So far, 266 students have received a total of 384 job offers. The robust performance demonstrates the strong industry acceptance of IITH graduates.

Major multinational corporations have participated in the placement drive, including tech giants Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, Qualcomm, and Intel. These companies actively seek out talent from IITH for a range of roles, including software development, data science, and hardware engineering.

IITH's Rising Prominence

IITH has consistently been ranked among India's top engineering institutions, known for its innovative curriculum, research-focused environment, and commitment to practical learning. The institute offers a diverse portfolio of programs, spanning undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels in engineering, science, and humanities.

Edward Nathan Varghese's achievement is a testament to both his individual talent and the quality of education at IITH. It also underscores the increasing attractiveness of Indian engineering graduates in the global job market. The institute is now focusing on building stronger industry partnerships and expanding its research capabilities to further enhance its position as a leading center for technological innovation. The success of this placement season is expected to attract even more top-tier companies and students to IITH in the years to come, solidifying its role in shaping the future of Indian technology.
